Culture
The University of Alabama's influence on the culture of Tuscaloosa is apparent through its many nightlife opportunities and sports attractions, especially the university's football team, the Crimson Tide who play at the Bryant-Denny Stadium. The city's vibrant nightlife is shown through the many pubs, bars, taverns and restaurants that cater to the younger crowd.

History
Tuscaloosa's population exploded after the War of 1812 and was incorporated into the state in 1819. The city became the capital of Alabama for 20 years in the 1800s, and several thousand men from Tuscaloosa fought for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. The city felt the brunt of much of the war's destruction and the economic downturn following the surrender of the South. However, given the strength of the University of Alabama's growth and the influx of industries, Tuscaloosa has grown into a prosperous and beautiful city with historical wonders and modernization living side by side.
